Determining what planned gift is right for you is just as important as making the gift. Regardless of type or size, each gift is critical to sustaining First Step’s position as the region’s leader in treating alcohol and drug addictions. Planned gifts may be unrestricted or restricted to an area of your choosing, including the Annual Fund, Capital Projects Fund or Endowment Fund. Donors who establish planned gifts for First Step are encouraged to let us know so we can recognize your gift with membership in the Circle of Hope. Contact the Development Office at 941-552-2476 for more information.

Circle of Hope

The Circle of Hope honors individuals who have made a legacy gift to First Step in their estate plans or by naming First Step as a beneficiary of a will, trust, retirement plan or insurance plan.

If you have made, or plan to make, a legacy gift to First Step, please notify the Development Office at 941-552-2476 so your name can be added to the roster of Circle of Hope members. Click here for a copy of the Circle of Hope Letter of Intent.  Please return the completed form to First Step.  Back to top

Bequests

You may include First Step as a beneficiary in your will by leaving us a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, or by naming First Step as a residual beneficiary. Estate taxes can be reduced by making a bequest. Contact your financial advisor and/or the Development Office at 941-552-2476 for more information. Back to top

Charitable Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity is one of the easiest and most popular ways to make a charitable gift and supplement your income with fixed annual payments. You can establish a gift annuity with as little as $10,000 using cash or securities or, in certain cases, property. In exchange for your gift, First Step will pay a specified amount to two or more beneficiaries for life. The payout rates vary according to the age of the beneficiary. Contact your financial advisor and/or the Development Office at 941-552-2476 for more information. Back to top

Charitable Lead Trust

A charitable lead trust can provide significant charitable and tax benefits. During the term of the trust, a percentage of the assets would be paid out each year to First Step.  At the end, all of the remaining assets would return to you or pass to your heirs. Gift or estate taxes can be reduced by making your gift through a trust. Contact your financial advisor and/or the Development Office at 941-552-2476 for more information. Back to top

Life Insurance

A life insurance policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose can be transferred to First Step. You will receive a gift credit for the cash surrender value of the policy and may claim its value as an income tax deduction in the year of the transfer.

An individual may also purchase a new policy with First Step named as its irrevocable beneficiary. Premiums are tax deductible in the years in which they are paid. Contact your insurance agent or financial advisor and/or the Development Office at 941-552-2476 for more information. Back to top
